a democratic cryptocurrency
LAUNCH set for OCTOBER 17, 2015 at 6PM GMT.
SOIL is an Ethereum-platform based cryptographic smart contract information and user-created application hosting service, built directly on top of a viable digital currency. It will be a fairly launched, transparent, consensus driven and a community managed tender, with democratically realized stakeholder input towards further evolution of the system and its applications.
Through the use of the decentralized blockchain, there will be no single individual or small group of individuals with a controlling interest in the currency. The overall decision making will be achieved through consultation of fair voting by the people who invest in it. The maturation of the system, with a progression of the core devopment can be suggested upon, voted upon and acted upon by a fair consensus of the community which remains involved with the project and holds a stake in SOIL It will be an unequivable, understandable and open process.
Developer's reserve wallets and the community reserve wallet will possess a regularily updated public ledger, ensuring honesty with regards to the development team's personal investment in the coin, as well as exactly what is debited OR credited from/to the community reserve, where it is sent and for what purpose. We are interested in an openly transparent process to gain your trust, which in the cryptocurrency world is a fleeting thing. We aim to gain that trust, and KEEP it.
At it's heart will be SOIL, a speculative tender that will be traded as any other digital currency, on major altcoin exchanges online. It will be divisible, similarily to other altcoins, having 1SOIL=100,000,000DUST. Built on top of this digital asset will be a decentralized user-created digital application (DAPPS) platform ensuring a global network of computers handling the simple or complex automated needs of a growing industry.
SOIL will focus the delivery of smart contracts to a specific sector of industry, thus building a trusted and recognizable brand. SOIL will approach the ecological/environmental and agricultural stratum of the commercial world, bridging the gap between cryptocurrency and real-world applications of a progressively automated ag-business sector and environmental technology services. We want provide technology that is backwards-compatible as it ages, state-of-the-art, and capable of adapting to those future technologies as they become available.
Agriculture is humankind’s earliest economic activity, and remains its most important. It is the sector of industry responsible for providing the food, feed, fiber, and fuel necessary for our continuing survival as a race. According to a UN report in 2013, the global population is expected to reach 9.6 billion by 2050, thus agricultural producers must double their output if it is to meet the increasing demands for food, clothing and bioenergy. Given diminsihing land, water and labor resources, it is estimated that the efficiency of agricultural productivity must increase its effectiveness and efficeincy by 25% to meet that goal, while limiting the growing pressure that agricultural practices put on the environment.
Farmers and ranchers worldwide are quicly migrating towards precision agricultural methods, creating efficiency and efficacy for agricultural inputs and the spatial and temporal management of agricultural systems. ResearchMoz, a market research and industry analysis service, has predicted that the agricultural autonomous project market will grow from $817million in 2013 to a staggering $16.3BILLION by 2020.
Modern farms are increasingly taking advantage of automated harvesting and tractors, which can operate around the clock and ensure tight operational windows can be achieved, especially for seeding and other time-sensitive activities. Nursery operations now rely on automation for planting, pruning, grafting, etc. Weeding and thinning operations are now more and more automated. Crop inspection, data collection and manipulation are controlled by centralized computers to increase the productivity and efficiency of modern farms. Modern dairy and poultry farms rely on heavily automated controls to work with their flocks and herds. Unmanned drones are used to inspect crops, sending data back to a centralized hub to be sorted into data and real-time 3D maps with which the farmer can use to adjust his operations on a micro-realized scale and produces a previously unknown adaptability.
Many of these processes are controlled by centralized servers which are subject to real world hardware failures which cost productivity and affect the bottom line. These centralized networks face cyber attacks, theft of data and operational procedures, etc. By placing these applications in a cryptographically secure and globally decentralized environment, this will remove another risk factor facing the agricultural business, and will, as the system grows and evolves, exponentially increase the base value of SOIL, both as a speculative currency and as a platform for automated agricultural practices.
By being the first cryptocurrency based application to tackle these problems, we will be at the forefront of a revolution in both the altcoin world but in a future for real world applications in a automatic ecological and agricultural industry.

SPECIFICATIONS
ALGORITHM: DAGGER - a "memory-hard to compute, memory-easy to verify" Scrypt alternative, based on moderately connected "directed acyclic graphs" (DAGs). Memory-hardness is important to make the PoW (Proof of Work) function generally ASIC-resistant. This produces a more democratic distribution of cryptocurrency mining, making it cost-ineffective to run Application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) mining rigs of the sort that have dominated Bitcoin mining over the past few years, pushing out the average cryptocurrency user in favour of large scale "mining farms" consisting of dozens (if not hundreds) of ASIC units, which leads to a centralization of mining into the hands of the few. The Dagger algorithm is designed to be resistant to that sort of mining, making it feasible for the average user with either CPU or GPU mining to effectively take part in the mining process and blockchain verification.
We will be utilizing the PROOF OF WORK protocol to validate computer processing work for solving the equations required to validate the Blockchain. SOILcoins are "mined" using the "Hashcash proof-of-work" function by individual nodes which are verified by the decentralized peer-to-peer SOIL network. The process of "mining" is essentially the process of competing to be the next to find the answer that "solves" the difficult-to-answer block-unique mathemitecal problem for the current block.
The mathematical problem in each block is extremely difficult to solve, but once a valid solution is found, it is very easy for the rest of the network to confirm that the solution is correct. Because there is a reward of newly minted SOILcoin for solving each block, each block also contains a record of which SOILcoin addresses or script is entitled to receive the reward. This record is known as a generation transaction, or a coinbase transaction, and is always the first transaction appearing in every block.
TARGET BLOCK TIME: 35 seconds. We are working on creating not only just a speculative currency, but also a generalized network platform for decentralized applications. In the context of non-financial applications people tend to expect a much more rapid response time for the confirmation of transactions. Therefore, for the purpose of a stable AND efficient transactional platform, having a blockchain that is faster than the 10 minute blocktime for Bitcoin is essential. Arguments have been postulated that a faster block time creates more orphaned blocks due to the delay of block propagation over the entire network, and should the 35 second target prove problematic, adjustments will be made to this rate, via consensus vote by the SOILcoin community.
BLOCK REWARD: 8 SOIL per block. Thus, with a proposed 35 second block time, the goal is propagate and verify approximately 2468 blocks per day, minting up to 19,718 SOILcoins each day. This will produce, in SOILs first year of operation, a total of 7.2million SOILcoins. A block reward halving will be discussed with the community and a vote on this will be done within the first two years, which will help slow the minting of SOIL, preventing deflationary forces against the base value of SOIL as a whole, and ensure a longer life-expectancy of the coin.
COMMUNITY and DEVELOPMENT TEAM RESERVES: A 500,000 SOIL reserve will be included into the Genesis-block upon main net launch. 400,000 SOIL will be placed directly into a "community reserve" which will pay for the costs of BlockExplorer hosting, bounties for ported wallet applications, foreign language translations, SOIL faucet creation and sustainment, social media giveaways, etc. A public ledger will be posted and updated with each transaction to and from the community reserve to ensure a legitimate and open accounting of where those funds are going and for what reasons. A 50% portion of block rewards that myself (the Community and Marketing Director) will earn thru mining on the SOIL blockchain will be placed weekly directly into the community reserve to ensure a positive balance and loong term liquidity. Likewise, the reserve granted the developers will be placed in openly published wallets, which will engender trust within the community that these funds are being held by the core development team and not dumped onto the market. We are dedicated to the long term viability of this project and will be holding these funds. We want the community to know that we are invested invested in the long term viability and life of this project.
TOTAL COINS TO BE MINTED: At this time, there is no decision to place a hard cap on the number of coins minted, which would lead to the necessity of an adoption, early on, of Proof of Stake to continue to verify the blockchain. At the current rate of Block propagation/reward, a rate of 7.2million SOIL per year is estimated.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
HOW CAN I CONTRIBUTE? We are always looking for members of the cryptocurrency community to join the team! With a mandate for a democratic future, SOIL will need people to join our Advisory Team, who will help us craft those questions that will be put to a vote of all stakeholders of SOIL regarding new features, applications and core platform modifications. We also need people with programming skills to help create ported wallets for the web, Android, iPhone, etc. Foreign language translations of the SOIL message and platform software will be required. If you run a faucet, we want to hear from you as we want to ensure SOIL is available to everyone and its through faucets that many people first learn of new and innovative cryptocurrencies. DAPP and Smart Contract developers will always be needed, and as we begin to bring in ag-sector clients, they will be CRUCIAL. Beyond that, tell your friends about SOIL and get involved in the democratic voting processes by purchasing SOIL on an exchange or by mining some, holding it in your wallet, and exercising your voting rights to help forge the evolutinary direction of development for the SOILcoin platform, applications and brand.

CAN I MINE ON MY COMPUTER? YES!! With SOILs simple to use wallet package (download it from the link below), all the tools you need to mine on the main-net are included! Based on the toolset developed by the Ethereum team, it is possible to mine SOIL with either your CPU or GPU, or both at the same time. You can mine the main-net solo, or you can join a mining-pool, adding your processing power with that of users around the whole world to mine for SOILcoins. SOIL is ASIC-resistant, which levels the playing field for all members of the community, making it possible for everyone to have a fairly equal oppurtunity to successfully mine for SOIL.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN CPU AND GPU MINING? WHAT IS ASIC MINING? CPU mining uses the regular processors that every computer has, the Central Processing Unit. GPU mining is much faster than CPU mining and uses the graphics card on your computer. The speed of this depends entirely on the make and model of your graphics card, and needless to say, high-end gaming graphics cards will work faster than generic graphics cards preinstalled on your computer, just as desktop graphics cards are generally more powerful than laptop graphics cards. ASIC mining is performed by using a specially made unit which uses many chipsets to mine at much faster rates than your GPU. There are simple USB "Plug and Play" ASIC miners that can mine at speeds of 1.6 GH/s, costing less than $50USD; and larger units that cost several thousand dollars and mine at speeds above 1.4 TH/s. SOIL uses the DAGGER algorithm which is ASIC-resistant.
HOW DO I MINE FOR SOILCOINS ON MY COMPUTER?
CPU mining is simple to start with soil, by opening the "gsoil.bat" file in the wallet package, it will open up a command prompt window. Within a few moments you will see a message stating that "Block synchronization has started" wherein your computer will download the blocks that have already been mined (you will see multiple lines stating that your computer has "imported ### blocks"), bringing your software up-to-the-moment with the blockchain and ensure that you are mining on the most current block.
When block synchronization has finished, which you can tell by the fact you are now only importing 1 block at a time. Each time a new block is mined, your system will import that information. Simply type in miner.start(#) in the console and your system will begin mining with your CPU, where # is the number of threads or cores and logical processors you wish to devote of your computers processing power to mining. You can devote all or some of your CPU power to mining by changing the # value when you enter in the miner.start(#) command. gsoil will then download the DAG, which is a large (approximately 1GB) dataset which the mining process refers to. This can take a few minutes, but when it done generating the first time, mining will begin immediately afterwards. When you successfully mine a block, you will see a message "Block mined #####" with # representing the block number you have just successfully mined.
(**You can find out how many cores or threads your CPU possesses by hitting CTRL-SHIFT-ESC at the same time. This will bring up the Task Manager window. Choose the Performance tab. This will bring up a real-time graph showing how much of your CPU and RAM are being utilized. In the specifications on that window you will see the number of cores and logical processors your system has. Physical cores are physically on the chipset, and logical cores is another way those physical cores are treated, which causes the physical core to be treated like two cores. Thus, a computer with 4 cores and 4 logical processors would be capable of devoting 8 threads to CPU mining**)
GPU mining is also easy to start on SOIL. Click on the "start_gpu_mining.bat", which will open a new system command window. This program (ethminer) will also access the DAG file. GPU mining is more faster, in so far as hashrates, and the Ethereum-platform is optimized for this sort of mining. As you mine here, you will see a near constant "Mining on PoWhash #xxxxxxxxx". When your computer solves the algorithmic problem for the block, you will see a block message that begins "Solution found; submitting to [address]" and ends with "B-) Submitted and accepted!" Congratulations, you have just mined a block of SOIL and should see the block reward of newly minted SOILcoins in your wallet. Occasionally, the solution found will not be valid, wherein you will see the last line of the message reading "B-( GPU provided an invalid solution".
WHAT IS POOL MINING? By connecting your mining software, specifically the GPU mining platform of ethminer, to a mining pool, you are essentially pooling of resources of your processing power with that of many other miner over a network, to split the block reward equally, according to the amount of work they contributed to solving a block. A "share" is awarded to members of the mining pool who present a valid proof of work that their mining software has solved. Mining pools originated when the difficulty for mining increased to the point where it could take years for slower miners to generate a block and claim the reward due to the proliferation of massive hashing rate producing ASIC mining rigs. The solution to this problem was for miners to pool their resources so they could generate blocks more often and therefore receive a portion of the block reward on a more consistent basis, rather than randomly once in awhile. Essentially, you receive smaller rewards much more frequently rather than one large block reward very infrequently.
WHERE CAN I PURCHASE SOILCOINS? There are many online cryptocurrency exchanges available, and we are aiming to have a couple of the more established exchanges available at the moment SOIL is launched. Watch this page and our social media outlets for news.
SO WHEN WILL SOIL LAUNCH? We are currently running a "test net" to iron out the many bugs that are inherent to the Ethereum-platform. We want a smooth launch, and so our lead software developer has asked the community to test out the platform in every conceivable way in order to identify flaws in the programming and in the GUI wallet so that they can be rectified BEFORE the main net launch.
When we are prepared for the launch of SOIL, we will announce the date, well in advance, on our social media outlets, and on the various altcoin forums, with a countdown timer, so that everyone will have equal opportunity upon launch to mine the blockchain for block rewards and to purchase SOILcoins at the online exchanges. Watch this website for updates.
HOW DO I CHECK MY SOIL BALANCE? You can check your balance easily by opening our GUI wallet "SOILsafe.bat". **NOTE: gsoil must be running when you open up your wallet.**
You can also check your balance via the console in gsoil by entering the following on the command line:
web3.fromWei(eth.getBalance(wallet address), "soil")
Fill in your wallet address where applicable. You can get your wallet address in SOILsafe, or by entering "eth.accounts" on the command line.
